Honey Joes

It's been a minute since we shared a great recipe. We've been pining for school lunch Sloppy Joes and tots. We don't know why but we need them! We are HUGE fans of Sloppy Joes and tater tots. A perfect go to hot meal for a cold night, a snow day lunch treat or for game day. We've added a couple of options with these made from scratch Honey Joes.

INGREDIENTS

1/4 cup - onions, chopped

1/4 cup - celery, chopped

1/4 cup - carrots, grated

2 T - vegetable oil

1 lb. - ground turkey or beef (We highly recommend visiting our friends at Forever Vos Farms or Two Creek Farms for locally raised beef depending on where you live)

1/2 cup - tomato paste

1/4 cup - honey

3 T - water

1 T - vinegar

2 tsp. - Worcestershire sauce

1 1/2 tsp. - chili powder

4 - hamburger buns

salt and pepper, to taste

**You can even cut the honey and the tomato paste and sub with Honey BBQ sauce or Apple Hickory BBQ sauce

DIRECTIONS

In a large pan over medium heat, sauté onions, celery and carrots in oil until soft. Stir in turkey; cook 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until turkey is browned and crumbly. Stir in remaining ingredients, except seasonings and hamburger buns. Simmer, covered, 3 to 5 minutes. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

Divide mixture evenly between hamburger buns to serve.
