Oh my Bearded BEE!!!
Our Propolis Beard Oil is ABSOLUTELY the BEST thing that any man could hope for in beard care.
Only 3 ingredients in this fantastic product: Squalane (from olives), Propolis, and Fragerance.
The science behind our Beard Oil:
Squalene (with an “e”) is a lipid produced naturally by your own skin cells. But the amount of squalene your body produces declines with age. Peak production of this natural moisturizer occurs in the teen years, with production slowing down in your 20s or 30s. As a result, your skin becomes drier and rougher. Squalene isn’t only natural in humans. The moisturizer is naturally present in olives, rice bran, and sugarcane.
Squalene must be hydrogenated to be included in skin care products, and that's the version that we use.
Animal and plant squalene is too unstable to be used in skin care products. When exposed to oxygen, it can become rancid and spoil quickly. Before it can be used in skin care products, squalene must be hydrogenated into squalane (with an “a”), which is a stable form of the molecule. Hydrogenation is the process of converting squalene from an unsaturated oil to a saturated oil (squalane). Hydrogenation makes the oil more skin-friendly and helps increase its shelf life.
Skin benefits of squalane:
Hydrated skin is healthy skin. So, when applied topically, squalane has tremendous benefits.
Boosting hydration can help your skin appear more vibrant and healthier. The antioxidants in these oils and creams also fight skin damage and free radicals, which can both accelerate the aging process. Regular use can also boost collagen production, resulting in firmer skin.
Squalane for acne or oily skin
If you have acne-prone or oily skin, using the wrong skin care products can trigger a breakout or worsen blemishes. Squalane, however, is safe for all skin types.
It’s an excellent alternative if other oils are too heavy or greasy for your skin. Despite being an oil, it’s lightweight and noncomedogenic, meaning it won’t clog your pores.
It does penetrate pores and improve skin at the cellular level, but it doesn’t feel heavy on the skin. While squalane won’t clog your pores, natural skin oils, dead skin cells, and bacteria can. So before applying squalane to your face, use a gentle cleanser to clean out your pores. Also, exfoliate once or twice a week to remove dead skin cells.
Propolis:
Propolis is a resin like substance made by bees from tree resins and sap. It is usually dark brown and has a sticky texture, which is why it’s often called bee glue. Bees use propolis all over their hive to fill cracks and gaps in the walls.
Propolis is also used to line nest cavities and even reduce the hive opening. Sometimes bees prefer a smaller opening because it’s easier to defend. Because propolis is naturally antibacterial, it inhibits the growth of fungus and bacteria in the beehive.
Why would we want Propolis in our Beard Oil??
Research!!
1. May Prevent Hair Loss
One of the main propolis benefits for hair is that it has been shown in research studies to prevent hair loss. Hair loss and the thinning of hair is a big problem for many men and women. It is known that some types of hair loss is the result of inflammation. That lead researchers to look into propolis as a solution since propolis has anti-inflammatory properties.
Scientists did research on mice and found that the mice that received propolis treatment experienced faster hair growth than those that did not. That is because propolis promotes the growth of cells that are responsible for hair growth.
Regrow Hair
After the propolis treatment, the researchers found that the cells that grow hair have increased. Therefore, scientists conclude that propolis treatments can help with balding. A second study, published in 2016 also found that propolis increased hair length and results in a greater percentage of hair follicles.
